MIMM: A Lovely Weekend

Good morning, y’all — I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Did you do anything special?

That someecard just about sums up how I feel about Monday mornings. I’d love to be one of those people who doesn’t feel like this when a new work week starts, but alas…if you were to ask me whether I’m ok with the weekend being over, I’d be all:

Anyways, despite the general lousiness of Monday morning, I had a lovely weekend! It was strangely busy yet not busy; we had a lot of domestics to take care of, so I ran a lot of errands.

While I know this makes me a complete weirdo, I’ll full-out admit this: I really like running errands. Getting out and blazing through my to-do list like General Sherman through the South just plain makes me happy. I love being productive, even if it just involves routine life maintenance tasks — so errands actually make me a happy cowgirl.

The only thing I don’t like about errands? The fact that there’s never enough time in which to do them. The fact that I can only do said errands after work and on weekends is cramping my style, y’all. I’m not feelin’ it. Sadly, though, I have yet to win the lottery — so the chances of me being able to morph into a lady of leisure any time soon are about nil.

Le sigh.

Anyways, despite the time crunch this weekend, there were some fairly marvelous moments. Thanks as always to Katie from Healthy Diva Eats for hosting Marvelous in My Monday!

MiMM Marvelous in my Monday #50 with Weekend Highlights

First and foremost, I got my hair did on Friday night with a new stylist, and she’s freakin’ awesome.

I had some failed attempts at a selfie in order to display the haircut, since I’m no bueno with selfies (as you can tell, I was concentrating too hard on taking the picture to, y’know, smile — oops!). This one is the best one that actually shows what my haircut (just past my shoulders with long layers) looks like.

Anyways, this haircut was extra exciting because I feel like a really good stylist is a rare find. This is especially true since I have super-thick hair (and loads of it). People have been known to get a bit slap-happy with the scissors and wind up butchering my tresses — or, in the case of a guy who was making a futile attempt at doing my hair for a friend’s wedding a couple years ago, threatening to cut it all off and shave my head. (No joke. Homeslice actually said this. I was unimpressed.)

But I digress! The “hashtag, winning” motif continued on Saturday, when we started the day with GF blueberry pancakes.Y’all, they were so effing good. I love these things. King Arthur Flour wins!

That afternoon we saw Star Trek: Into Darkness, and yo. It was awesome. (Also, can I just say that Chris Pine is dreamy?)ย  I’m really excited for the other movies coming out this summer, especially Man of Steel and Despicable Me II. It’ll be the perfect way to spend the oppressively hot and humid DC summer!

While running errands on Sunday, I managed to pick up this adorable mug from Marshall’s. (Marshall’s is a close second to Target as one of my favorite stores — there’s such awesome stuff there, and it’s all so cheap! *Claps hands, squeals in delight*) I’m going to take it to work for some gigantic mugs of tea. Yeah, I know that tea isn’t exactly a summery beverage…hence the summery mug. A girl’s gotta be seasonal somehow, amirite?

And now, with the weekend officially-for-real-no-shizzle over, I’m off to get my sweat on. Hope everyone has a fabulous Monday!

Did you do anything special this weekend?

If you went shopping, what sort of new loot did you pick up?

Are there any summer movies you’re particularly excited about?

Cute haircut! I need to find a good hair stylist in my new city. I’ve just been getting my hair cut whenever I’ve been home. You’re right, they’re so hard to find. I love that e-card too, pretty much sums it up, haha.

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:14 pm

Thanks, Caitlyn! And is it just me, or does some e-cards pretty much nail it every time? ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you had an awesome day!

  2. jessielovestorun May 20, 2013 / 7:37 am

I too have thick hair and kind of terrified to cut my hair short. I know layers help, but I just don’t want to walk around looking like I have a big afro on the top of my head… however, yours looks AMAZING so maybe mine would too? Ha Ha! Anyhoww.. LOVE the summery mug ๐Ÿ™‚

.. and now you are probably getting your sweat on!! Have a lovely Monday!!

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:13 pm

Thanks, love! Hope you had a fabulous day — by the time you read this it’ll be Tuesday in Kuwait, so have a wonderful Tuesday! ๐Ÿ™‚

Your hair looks great! I need to find a real stylist. I’ve had the same haircut forever. I have thin hair but tons of it, and I just don’t know what to do with it. I had short hair until I was a freshman in high school, so the most I can manage is a ponytail. My poor daughters…

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:12 pm

Thanks, Nicole! My mom has the same hair situation that you describe, so we had a hell of a time figuring out ways to manage mine when I was growing up. As long as you don’t give your daughters a bowl cut, though, it’ll be all good. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Little Miss Fit May 20, 2013 / 8:34 am

First of all, I am the exact same way in that I also really love doing errands. No one can understand why I like it so much, but I just do. I’m the same in that I only have evening and weekends to do my errands, and it never seems like that’s enough time.

Congrats on finding a stylist you love and that does a great job with your hair! That’s such a hard thing to find, so that’s great! The haircut looks great! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:11 pm

Woohoo — another person who likes doing errands! This makes me seriously happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the haircut love — I appreciate it!

Love your hair!! Ah do you think your stylist is willing to fly up to boston to do mine ๐Ÿ™‚ the girl i go to up here is ok… she, i mean, yeah, she’s good but not awesome. my boyfriend and i want to see the new star trek so bad!! (actually i think i want to see it more than he does) and ugh normally im pretty cool with mondays but today literally everything that could go wrong at work has gone wrong. if it was a thursday id be all “eh no biggie i can fix all this in a jiffy” but today im just staring at everything like “no hablo anglais”. ok, onwards.

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:10 pm

LMAO at “no hablo anglais” for Monday mornings — that’s awesome! Not awesome, however, is the presence of Murphy’s Law in your morning. I hope it improved drastically as the day went on!

  6. chasingchels May 20, 2013 / 9:17 am

Ahh love the hair, love, and totally agree with you about the difficulty of finding a good hair dresser who doesn’t destroy your hair…mine is thick and long (well used to be long) so i feel your pain on improper cutting on more than one occasion! We did a lot of errands unexpectedly too on Saturday…thought we were running out for an hour on Saturday, definitely not more than 2, and came back 4 hours later after going many more places than expected…at least we got a lot done ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:09 pm

Dude, we’ve SO done that before — the “oh, this shouldn’t take more than an hour or so” … cut to 5 hours later, when we’ve got a trunk full of loot and we’re both totally wiped out. The good thing is, though, that you got a lot done — hooray for productivity! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. ahealthyhappyhome May 20, 2013 / 9:28 am

I don’t think your weird as I actually enjoy running errands too! I drag my hubby and son along to make it a family event as well most weekends. I know, I’d probably get more done without them but it makes it more fun to have company sometimes. We hit up Costco yesterday for some birthday supplies. My son turns two this weekend!

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:06 pm

Woohoo — I’m not the only one in the “I love running errands” boat! ๐Ÿ™‚ And hooray for your son’s upcoming birthday — happy birthday to him in advance! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:06 pm

Amen, sister soultrain! Any morning that starts with pancakes is a morning I can get on board with. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Taryn May 20, 2013 / 10:15 am

Your hair looks great! And you’re so right – finding a good stylist is not easy, so hold onto this one! Glad to hear the new Star Trek was awesome. I was surprised by how much I liked the first one.. and you’re so right (again).. Chris Pine is dreamy ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:05 pm

Thanks, Taryn! I’ve lucked out with stylists in DC, for some reason — both the ones I’ve found here have been awesome.

I was also surprised by how much I liked the first Star Trek movie — I think having people our age (as opposed to, y’know, William Shatner) really helped, as did the vastly improved script writing. Who knew?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. megbek May 20, 2013 / 10:16 am

I love running errands too! Yay! And yes, only being able to do them after work and on the weekends is totally a cramp on style. Haha, you can return your Mondays at the dollar store, because that’s how much they’re worth. Yuck. Those pancakes look divine, and wouldn’t you know, I enjoyed some blueberry pancakes this weekend also – though yours look better! I want to see Star Trek so badly! Yay, glad it was good! I saw Iron Man 3 last night and the previews looked so good for this summer!!!! YAY! Despicable Me 2, OF COURSE, and also tons others. Yay!

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:03 pm

Bhahahaha! I love the “return Mondays at the Dollar Store” retort — that’s awesome. Well played! ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Cindy Jillie May 20, 2013 / 10:34 am

I hope to see the new Scorsese movie this summer. He is a decent director and a fine actor as well. I also like blueberry pancakes and a large black coffee anytime I am sitting in a dark movie theater by myself.

  11. Jess @ JessieBear May 20, 2013 / 10:45 am

Omg yes Star Trek was SO awesome! Chris Pine…and basically all the other men in that movie. Mmm. And my bf wondered why I wanted to see it so bad ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Alex @ therunwithin May 20, 2013 / 10:48 am

weekends are always too short. i am need in need of a day of just browsing shops like marshalls and tjmaxx, i feel like they are gold mines of awesome things

  13. liveandbeawesome May 20, 2013 / 12:12 pm

I love doing errands too! It feels so good to tick things off the to-do list. I’ve never seen any Star Trek movies/TV episodes, so I feel like I really need to jump on this bandwagon.

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 10:01 pm

The modern movies are waaaaay better than the old William Shatner ones – Brandon and I were discussing this after watching Into Darkness, and we agreed that Chris Pine makes an excellent Kirk. If you’re going to watch any of the Star Trek series, watch these movies!

  14. livliveslife May 20, 2013 / 3:58 pm

I love running errands. It’s so satisfying to cross things off my list! And even when I don’t have a list, I sometimes like to go out just to clear my mind.
Your hair looks cute! I finally found my perfect hairdresser a few years ago…before her, no one knew what to do with my piles of curly hair! It was always a nightmare getting it cut.
I never think to go to Marshall’s…only Target. I go there for cheap stuff and end up buying ten more things than I needed. I have a Target problem.
I’m so excited to see the Great Gatsby, but I’m forcing myself to finish the book first. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 9:59 pm

Oh, girl, you and I share an affliction known as Target-itis. Symptoms include impulsively buying a bajillion things that weren’t originally on the shopping list (but were cute, cheap, and useful, thus totally justifying their purchase) and uncontrolled giddiness at the prospect of going to Target. Happily, there’s no known cure for this ailment. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. HealthyDiva (@HealthyDiva31) May 20, 2013 / 4:12 pm

Hope you got your sweat on girl! I did 35 minute cardio, didn’t sweat, but when I went outside today and hung out with a friend, I sweat! So hot here today, haha!

    New hair looks beautiful!

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 9:57 pm

Thanks, mama! It went from cool to ridiculously hot here, too — but it must be especially warm for you, what with the bun baking away! Stay cool, lady! ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. thepaceofitall May 20, 2013 / 4:25 pm

Your hair looks gorgeous, love the cut and style! And I saw Star Trek too! I hear you about running errands.. it’s nice to cross them off the list when they’re done!

  17. Melissa May 20, 2013 / 6:10 pm

A cheer for new haircuts! I love the cut. Crossing things off of a list is one of my greatest joys – I put the smallest tasks on there (because “put lotion on” is totally a task right?) JUST so I can cross them off. I ran my half this weekend and ate a lot of cake, so that was pretty awesome ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 9:56 pm

I LOVE the idea of adding daily routine things to my to-do list! Shower? Done. Eat breakfast? Done. Wake up? Boom. Done. Next.

Also, I love the combination of running + cake. The cake was well deserved after your half — congratulations on an awesome accomplishment! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Lillian @ Seize the Latte May 20, 2013 / 9:53 pm

Thank you and thank you! I’m enjoying the shorter hair, and the pancakes were delish. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Meredith May 21, 2013 / 3:45 am

Love your hair and I’m happy for you that you found someone you like. I am struggling with finding a new hairstylst and it’s so frustrating! Target, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx tie for my top 3 : -) we should be shopping buddies!

  19. Sara @ Nourish and Flourish May 21, 2013 / 3:55 am

I’m an errand-running lover, too. If that makes me a weirdo, I’ll take it! Like you, I get a thrill checking things off my to-do list, but I also really love interacting with salespeople. I know. Double weirdo. I make friends with salespeople. But hey, it often results in discounts and free products! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I LOVE the new ‘do! So chic! Please please please share who did the wonderful job? I’ve lived in DC for eight years and still haven’t found a great stylist. I always have mine cut when I’m home because the woman I’ve been going to since high school is AMAZING. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to find a decent hairdresser in a big city like DC! Waaaah.

Oh heavens, major pancake porn happening again! I need to pick up some King Arthur flour and give it a whirl. Usually I use oat or coconut flour, but something’s telling this blend might actually taste like the yummy white all purpose flour I grew up with. Squee!

Hope you had a great Monday, lady! โค

  20. The Siren's Tale May 22, 2013 / 10:17 am

Great new haircut! I can completely sympathize with you on the trouble with finding a great stylist with thick hair. I met my dream stylist about a year ago and haven’t left her since! Like yours, my hair is super thick and typically when I would go for “just a trim” and come out with a triangle-shaped haircut… what?! Haha. I’m glad that you’ve found a keeper too!
